Amazon Go: The world’s most advanced shopping technology, no lines, no checkouts.

4 years ago Amazon started to wonder what would shopping look like if you walk into the store, grab what you want and just go? What if we could weave the most advanced machine learning, computer learning, and Artificial Intelligence into the very fabric of a store so you never have to wait in line. No lines, no checkouts, no registers. Welcome to Amazon Go.

Amazon Go is a kind of store where no checkout is required, therefore no cashiers, no lines, and no checkouts.  Just use your Amazon Go app to enter the store. When you enter the store, sign in to the Amazon Go app that generates a QR code which is specific to your Amazon account. Now you can put away your phone and start shopping. As soon as you are in, the cameras start tracking your position within the store. These cameras can also track what you are looking at. It's really that simple. There are sensors in the self which can detect if an item is picked up or not. These same sensors can detect if you place the item back. So take whatever you like, anything you pick up is automatically added to your virtual cart. If you change your mind about any particular item that you have selected just put it back and the technology will update your virtual cart automatically. The whole point of this is to make it make fast and convenient for the customers. The first Amazon Go store is located in Seattle, Washington, and it has opened to the public on 22nd January 2018.

Okay so now you might be thinking how does it work? Amazon uses computer vision, deep learning algorithms and sensor fusion technology which is much like you'd find in self-driving cars. It uses a lot of cameras for different purposes. Amazon calls it Just Walk Out Technology. Once you have got everything you want you can just go. When you leave, the Just Walk Out Technology adds up all the items that you have bought in your virtual cart and charges your Amazon account. Your receipt is sent straight to the app and you can keep going.
